Aussie World has submitted a proposal to build a $60 million waterpark at its Palmview location, promising to transform the Sunshine Coast’s entertainment landscape.

The concept design features 16 waterslides for all ages, leisure pools, action pools, and various waterplay areas, along with food and beverage outlets, a pool bar, sun lounges, cabanas and a souvenir shop.

The development application submitted to the Sunshine Coast Council outlines plans to build the waterpark on privately owned land north of the existing theme park. If approved, it will become the largest waterpark on the Coast, rivaling similar attractions in South-East Queensland and significantly contributing to the local economy by drawing an estimated 780,000 annual visitors by 2031.

The new waterpark is expected to solidify the Sunshine Coast’s reputation as Queensland’s tourism capital for families and young adults, adding to the region’s array of tourist attractions. The construction phase alone will inject up to $39 million into the local economy through building works and the supply of materials and services. Once operational, the waterpark could generate $15.2 million to $30 million annually for the local tourism economy.

Additionally, the project includes expanding the existing car park to ensure smooth traffic flow. Employment opportunities are expected to increase significantly, with 193 full-time staff during peak seasons and 87 full-time staff during non-peak periods.

The proposed waterpark will not only enhance the Sunshine Coast’s entertainment offerings but also positively impact the property market. Increased tourism and economic activity are likely to attract more residents and investors to the area, driving up property values and stimulating growth in the real estate market.
