New congestion-busting road plan unveiled for North Lakes

A new arterial road is set to reduce commuting times for North Lakes residents with funding for construction announced by the State Government.

The road, dubbed the Moreton Connector, will be built between Dohles Rocks Road at Murrumba Downs and Anzac Avenue at Mango Hill.

The $2.1 billion road plan will also deliver upgrades to the Gateway Motorway, Gympie Road and the Bruce Highway, including new north-facing ramps at Dohles Rocks Road.

While the project does need additional Federal Government funding to kick off, the Prime Minister recently indicated billions of dollars of infrastructure projects would be green-lighted to get the economy moving post-coronavirus.

Image Property North Lakes sales agent Alex Silva said there was no doubt that the project would decrease commuting times for local residents.

“The population of North Lakes is continuing to grow strongly, with an increase of nearly 40 per cent in the five years to 2016,” he said.

“The Moreton Connector will be another vital piece of infrastructure for our booming population, as was the Moreton Bay Rail Link which officially opened a years ago.”

As well as reducing travel times, the project will improve access to North Lakes for Griffin residents and create local jobs.

A key part of the project will be northern suburb upgrades to the Gateway Motorway, Bruce Highway and Gympie Road, which collectively carry about 310,000 vehicles a day.

Indeed, most people would be surprised to know that these roads carry 100,000 more vehicles every day than the busiest section of the M1!

According to the State Government, this part of the project will transform Brisbane’s northern gateway by re-designing the Gateway Motorway, Bruce Highway and Gympie Road interchange.

It will also build a new arterial road to take traffic off the Bruce Highway between Murrumba Downs and Mango Hill.

State and local government funding has also been set aside to upgrade the Linkfield Road overpass and the Strathpine Road interchange, with works there due to start in coming months.

These sorts of major infrastructure projects are further signs that the North Lakes and the Moreton Bay region in general are booming with demand for property from savvy buyers also on the up and up.
