How to Keep Pests Out of Your Home: A Guide for Tenants

No one likes uninvited guests, especially when they come in the form of pests. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to keep pests out of your home.

By following these tips, you can create a clean and healthy environment that is inhospitable to pests.

Keep it Clean and Tidy
Pests thrive in dirty and cluttered environments. Keeping your home clean and tidy is the first line of defence against pests. Be sure to sweep and mop floors regularly, wipe down surfaces, and dispose of rubbish promptly. Make sure to immediately clean up any spills or crumbs, and keep dirty dishes in the sink for a short time.

Seal Entry Points
Pests can enter your home through the smallest cracks and crevices. Inspect your home for any gaps around doors, windows, and pipes. Make sure your screens are in good repair and fit tightly. Use door sweeps to block gaps under exterior doors. Ensure any concerns are reported to your property manager.

Store Food Properly
Pests are attracted to food sources, so proper food storage is essential. Keep food in airtight containers, and make sure to clean up any spills or crumbs immediately. Don’t leave food out overnight and keep your kitchen clean and free of clutter.

Reduce Moisture
Pests need moisture to survive, so reducing moisture in your home is important. Report any leaky pipes or faucets, and make sure your bathroom and kitchen are well-ventilated. Use a dehumidifier if necessary.

Keep Your Yard Tidy
Pests can enter your home from your yard, so it’s important to keep it tidy as well. Trim bushes and trees away from your home, remove any standing water and keep your rubbish bins closed.

By following these simple steps, you can reduce the likelihood of pests entering your home.

Remember, a clean and tidy home is a healthy home. If you do find pests in your home, notify your property manager immediately so they can take appropriate action.

We hope these tips help you maintain a pest-free home!
